Summer Evening Events 2009

Last updated on 29/06/09      [Lakes-O Front Page]

West Cumberland Orienteering Club will be staging a series of evening events, on Thursday evenings. Everyone is welcome to turn up and take part; you don't have to be a member to take part. The events are very informal, so you will be able to do the course at your leisure. There will almost always be a course to suit your ability. Details of parking and the venue can always be found by ringing the club answerphone.... 01768 895539 in the couple of days leading up to each Thursday.

Often the parking is scattered and quite limited. Please park to make best use of the spaces that are available. Registration and hire of ecards will be from a car in the car parking area..... probably where the huddle of people are standing!!! The events are very informal, so just ask anyone where things are if you are new to the sport. You are more than welcome to turn up and try the courses on offer.... someone will be pleased to explain the format and help you through the pre-start formalities. The maps are overprinted with the course and are in a plastic bag to protect them from the weather, and will be found at the start. Those doing the Easy/Starter course can get their map from registration and have a good look at the course before setting out.

The results for the 2009 Summer League will be posted here.

Most of the venues will be readily accessible in West Cumbria. The results are posted on the 'net' shortly after each event.

July 9th - Low Rigg near Threlkeld

Low Rigg is a relatively easy area of rough grazing fields with quite a bit of rock and crag detail. The event this week is the PARISH RELAYS.
Teams of three runners, with people from the same area/parish if possible. But any team of three will do. There is a junior competition as well, with easy courses. Please EMAIL to register your team, or your wish to be allocated to a team on the night. The relay consists of running six laps/legs (2 each of long, medium and short) with only two runners out at a time. The team of three runners can allocate the six laps to be run in any order by any member of the team.... tactics involved!! When the six legs are run, a nominated runner from the team runs a final short leg to finish. Great fun and a highlight of the summer series.
Electronic punching will be used, with ecards available if you don't have your own. Maps will be overprinted with your course and will be on waterproof paper.
Teams can be made up on the night but please, PLEASE email to say you are hoping to run. A lot of maps have to be prepared.
